Ford Fiesta CL 1.6 5 door (2009)
by John Ewing,reviewed June 2009
Ford's 6th generation Fiesta looks distinctive, while improvements under the skin ensure that it remains one of the class leaders.
The 1.6-litre engine is energetic, with a smooth delivery through the rev range. The five-speed manual gearbox has a precise feel and sensible ratios. A light, progressive clutch and a stall-prevention system add appeal.
Highlights include good steering and ride, plus nimble handling that is well beyond what's expected from cars in this price range.
A non-locking fuel filler flap seems like penny-pinching, and electronic stability is part of a $1000 option pack on CL and LX models.
