RACQ marks end of historic rescue helicopter partnership

RACQ is marking the end of an era with its 30-year naming rights sponsorship of LifeFlight Rescue coming to an end on 30 June after the State Government announced new funding arrangements for the service.
Over this time, RACQ has helped fund and been the proud sponsor of the vital rescue and aeromedical helicopter service, creating Queensland’s longest corporate partnership.
Group CEO David Carter said he was proud of the incredible legacy RACQ had built with the life-saving organisation.
“RACQ and LifeFlight have always shared a vision and commitment to help Queenslanders in times of need by ensuring access to the very best medical service,” Mr Carter said.
“We remain just as proud today as we were all those years ago to have our brand associated with such a purpose-driven cause which makes a vital difference to the lives of many Queenslanders.
“Since 2010, RACQ has provided more than $50 million in sponsorship and donations to LifeFlight Rescue, with the critical service responding to thousands of missions.
“We are honoured to have created a historic legacy and we’re looking forward to seeing the service continue to expand their capabilities through their new funding agreement with the Queensland Government.”
The State Government announced a 10-year funding commitment of an additional $586.1 million to LifeFlight’s rescue service, significantly expanding its role in funding the essential community service and removing the role RACQ has played as naming rights sponsor and a major donor given the sustainable funding base that will now be in place for LifeFlight’s core services.
RACQ respects this decision and welcomes the announcement that LifeFlight has been put on a long term, sustainable financial footing.
LifeFlight Rescue Australia CEO, Ashley van de Velde OAM, thanked RACQ for its dedication to the service.
“We are incredibly grateful to RACQ for its unwavering support and a shared commitment to save lives,” he said.
“The partnership with RACQ has enabled LifeFlight to help more than 81,000 people.
“It’s an incredible milestone few companies can claim and is testament to the strength, leadership and dedication of two leading Queensland organisations to support communities 24/7 and provide outstanding aeromedical care.
“While it’s the end of an era as our naming rights sponsor, we are continuing to explore new partnership opportunities with RACQ which could see continued investment and support for Queensland communities.”
