An Aussie Aussie Australia Day

Make your Australia day great with these fun-filled activities.

Listen to Triple j’s Hottest 100 countdown

It is somewhat of an Australian tradition to turn the radio on and tune in to Triple j’s Hottest 100. Every year, Aussies cast their votes on their favourite songs. The top 100 are then broadcast for all to listen. The hottest 100 will be played on January 27th, 2020.

Have a pool or beach party

For those without a pool, Queenslanders are fortunate to have some of the world’s best beaches right on their doorstep, meaning that a great day in the sand is only minutes away. From the Sunshine Coast to the Gold Coast, there are plenty of options when it comes to perfect beach hotspots. If you happen to have a pool, why not throw on some tunes, blow up your inflatable toys and have a cruisy day by the water’s edge?

Play a game of backyard or beach cricket

It wouldn’t be Australia Day without a game of cricket. Whether you’re a punter or a pro, set up the wickets and have some fun. It will be the perfect complement to a day with your family.

Have a BBQ

Fire up the BBQ and cook up some famous Australian delicacies: snags and steak! Show off your cooking skills in the comfort of your own home and when you’re done, why not jump in the pool!

Have a thong throwing competition

A very simple game but a classic for Australia Day, all you need is a thong and a bin. Points are scored by either hitting the bin or throwing your thong into the bin from a distance. Simple fun that the whole family will enjoy!

Play a game of trivia

How well do you know your country? All will be revealed if you play a game of Australia-themed trivia. You can grab plenty of great questions online, relating to history, entertainment, sport and the arts.

Meet up with family for lunch

If you haven’t had enough of your family already after the Christmas onslaught, there is no better time to catch up with them and get lunch whilst you’re doing so.

Watch the fireworks

Fireworks are a popular event at the end of Australia Day with displays taking place all over the country. The kids will especially love the bright colours and artistic patterns in the sky. Check online to see where the nearest fireworks will be located for you.
