The North Room
Size doesn’t count when it comes to dining flavour.
With just seven tables and a communal, marble-topped bar offering only 28 seats, this is the restaurant that proves that size doesn’t count when it comes to dining flavour. Think smoked potato waffles combined with whipped mullet roe and pickles or duck ham with beetroot, persimmon and linseed.
We asked owners Tim and Shannon Stewart what makes The North Room special.
What is the story behind The North Room?
We wanted to do something different and be a part of changing the food culture on the Gold Coast. The menus are constantly evolving with wine lists tweaked accordingly. It is a place where good food and service are at the forefront of everything. No cheap eats and cutting corners, just good food cooked from scratch utilising local produce from small producers.
Who are the chefs?
There is only one - Tim Stewart. We moved to the Gold Coast 12 years ago from Victoria and have never looked back. Before opening The North Room, Tim worked at Palazzo Versace, Seaduction and Oskars.
How would you describe the restaurant décor?
Navy and white, minimalist with a coastal vibe.
Where do you source your produce?
We try to keep everything as local as possible. Fresh seafood comes from Northern Rivers seafood daily. Green Cauldron Farm supply a lot of our greens and root vegetables. If the produce isn’t good, it won’t make the menu.
Which are your favourite dishes on the menu?
You always must start with the house made pretzel bread. It is fresh out of the oven and served with our own cultured butter. Divine! Our house-made bone marrow crumpet with local spanner crab, apple, cultured cream and salted egg yolk also is special.
What is different about your wine list?
We put a lot of focus on ensuring our list is complimentary to the food we serve. We try to steer away from the big producers and concentrate on supporting small.
The North Room offers a shared tasting style menu with five dishes and a side at $59 per person or you can select from the menu.
