VW Tiguan Range Revamped

With the release of the new seven-seat Tiguan Allspace, Volkswagen have taken the opportunity to revamp the standard wheelbase five-seat Tiguan range for MY2019.

They have taken the axe to the model line-up culling the seven existing models back to just three regular versions, plus a limited-edition Wolfsburg model. The MY19 cars will also provide more standard features to better align with the Allspace specifications.

Reflecting their overwhelming popularity with buyers, the new Tiguan range will retain the 132TSI Comfortline and 162TSI Highline variants – the two most powerful petrol models. The latter accounts for around 50% of sales currently. Both use the EA888 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine driving through a seven-speed DSG gearbox and 4Motion all-wheel-drive system.

A 110TSI model will return to the range once “production constraints” associated with the move to WLTP (Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedures) emissions and fuel consumption testing in Europe are resolved.

Additions to the standard equipment list on Comfortline include power tailgate, 18” alloys, dynamic headlights, keyless access/start, and power fold mirrors. Highline additions include adaptive cruise control, chassis control, 19” alloys, side assist with rear traffic alert, emergency assist, and traffic-jam assist.

The Wolfsburg Edition will arrive in October, along with the other MY19 Tiguan models. With some 90% of 162 TSI Highline buyers opting for the R-Design pack, the Wolfsburg will include it as standard along with the Sound and Vision Pack. Its ‘extras’ will include unique black exterior trim enhancements, 20” black Suzuka alloys, 90% rear window tint, and a head-up display. Three paint colours will be available, and it will be priced at $55,490.

132 TSI Comfortline is priced at $42,490 and the 162TSI Highline at $49,490. Metallic/pearl paint adds $700. Comfortline options are a Driver Assistance Pack ($1,400), Luxury Pack ($4,000) and the Sound and Vision Pack ($3,200). Options for Highline are Sound and Vision Pack ($3,000) and R-Line Pack ($2,900). A sunroof for Highline and Wolfsburg models is offered at $2,000.
