What are the benefits of having a solar battery?

How a solar battery can save you money and help the environment.

Brisbane solar company GEM Energy’s National Sales Manager David Gilles explains how a solar battery can deliver benefits to your household.

What about the cost?

Over time, and depending on how the household uses power, a battery will end up paying for itself. This then generates additional income for the home as occupiers will no longer receive large bills from energy retailers.

Impact on property’s value

There are numerous independent reports from real estate businesses stating that energy-efficient homes are highly sought-after in the Australian property market. By installing a battery, you are no longer paying large and often overseas-owned energy retailers for power. Instead you are putting that money into your own home. You will be powering your home from clean, green energy, while adding value to your own property.

Energy independence

Batteries can be connected so that there is still power to the house in the event of a blackout. This means that homeowners are no longer 100% reliant on the grid to provide power to their home. You will save money by using the electricity stored in your battery during high tariff times while households reliant on the grid will be susceptible to huge price increases during these peak times. This will further increase the return on investment.

Join a virtual power plant (VPP)

Virtual power plants can provide additional cost savings to battery owners while creating a more secure grid with less reliance on large-scale coal/gas (fossil fuel) power plants. Battery owners can sell power from their battery back to VPP providers during demand events at a higher price than consuming it directly from the grid.

Charge your EV with green power

It's not always possible to have your EV (electric vehicle) plugged in during sunlight hours. A battery will allow EV owners to trickle-charge their cars at night from self-generated power.
