Gold Coast tops State for electric vehicle ownership
Gold Coast motorists are leading the charge when it comes to sustainable transport with five local postcodes listed in the State’s top 10 regions for electric vehicle (EV) ownership.
RACQ’s Head of Public Policy Dr Michael Kane said the 4217 postcode, which includes Benowa, Bundall, Main Beach and Surfers Paradise, had the highest number of EV registrations in Queensland, and the third highest in the country.
“Gold Coast motorists are really embracing the transition to EVs with more now registered in the city than anywhere else in the south east,” Dr Kane said.
“While 4217 took out the top spot, the postcodes which encompass Hope Island (4212), Southport (4215), Broadbeach (4218), and Biggera Waters (4216) also have high EV ownership, taking out sixth, seventh, eighth and tenth spots respectively in the State.
“We know Gold Coasters love their idyllic, outdoors lifestyle so it’s great to see more motorists there making the transition to low-emission, environmentally friendly car ownership.”
RACQ obtained these latest figures through the Australian Automobile Association’s (AAA) new EV Index, an online dashboard which shows the technical transition of Australia’s EV fleet.
“The transition to electric vehicles is well underway and RACQ doesn’t want any Queenslanders to be left behind,” Dr Kane said.
“The AAA EV Index will be a great tool now and into the future to see which locations are taking up EV ownership, and perhaps highlight those regions where better charging infrastructure needs to be installed to improve EV uptake.”
Rounding out the top 10 EV ownership postcodes in Queensland were the inner city (4000, 4006, 4101), the western suburbs including Chapel Hill and Kenmore (4069), and the eastern suburbs around Carindale and Camp Hill (4152).
Queenslanders are displaying an increasing appetite for information on EVs with RACQ’s first EV Panel receiving more than 1,100 questions from our members. The 30-minute video is designed to educate Queenslanders about the transition to EVs to ensure no one is left behind.
