You are also entitled tobe compensated for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage from a failure in the goods or service.

Warranty

If our workmanship is found to be defective during the warranty period, we will reperform the defective services or refund the cost of those services. If your Alternator or Starter Motor sold by RACQ is found to be defective, this warranty is limited to the extent of the warranties provided by the suppliers or manufacturers of those goods.

This warranty does not cover an Alternator or Starter Motor that:

  • You no longer want or have changed your mind about;
  • You have found at a cheaper price elsewhere or made a wrong selection;
  • You knew had faults prior to your purchase;
  • You have requested despite advice that it may not meet your needs;
  • Has been modified in any way;
  • Has visible signs of damage, misuse or accident damage
  • Has been incorrectly fitted or applied by you; or
  • Fails due to after sales damage, including oil ingress, incorrect fitment, damage caused by fire, excessive heat, floods, wreckage, explosion or freezing, or damage caused by abuse or neglect.

Warranties are processed as goodwill and are not an admission of a product failure.

RACQ may not accept the results of any tests performed by another repairer or manufacturer in determining if an alternator or starter motor has failed under the terms of this Warranty and may instead conduct our own tests.

Other than those statutory provisions which cannot be excluded, we exclude all conditions and warranties which may be implied by law.

Warranty Claim Procedure

To make a warranty claim phone RACQ on 13 1905. You may be required to take your vehicle to an RACQ-approved workshop selected by RACQ acting reasonably, taking into account your location. If you do not hold a current RACQ Roadside product at the time the warranty claim is made, a service fee may be charged if roadside assistance is provided by RACQ.

The warranty claim will not be allowed unless proof of purchase (e.g. receipt or bank or credit card statement showing the product purchase) is provided. It is your responsibility to provide proof of purchase for any warranty claim.

Warranty Period

The warranty period in respect of an Alternator or Starter Motor sold by RACQ is limited to the warranty period offered by the supplier or manufacturer.

RACQ warrants its workmanship for the period of:

  • for Vehicles used only for private use - 12 months or 40,000km, whichever comes first
  • for Vehicles used wholly or partly for commercial use (including ride share) - 3 months

If the vehicle’s use changes from wholly private use to wholly or partly commercial use (including ride share), the warranty period will be reduced accordingly.

Discharged batteries

To the extent permitted by law, the cost to recharge your battery is not covered under this warranty. If RACQ or their representatives recharge your battery, there may be a fee for this service. You are ineligible for any replacement Alternator or Starter Motor, if you are not the original purchaser of the Alternator or Starter Motor from RACQ.

RACQ’s warranty is not transferable or assignable as a result of a third-party transaction.

RACQ will take necessary precautions to prevent any damage to your vehicle during the course of fitting the Starter Motor or Alternator. When required, an Electrical System Memory Protector (ESMP) is used to ensure retention of the vehicle’s system memory. Responsibility for damage caused that is not related to the Alternator or Starter Motor fitment cannot be accepted.

To the extent permitted by law:

  • we are not responsible for any loss or damage to your vehicle except to the extent that such loss or damage is caused by our negligence; and
  • we have no other liability under this warranty, including liability for any loss of your time, or vehicle use, or for any rental vehicle or transport costs, or loss of profits or anticipated profits or any indirect or consequential losses.
