Learners can continue to clock up hours in local village
After confusion over whether Learner drivers can get behind the wheel or not in this current health crisis, RACQ has confirmed Learners can drive in their local area.
RACQ spokesperson Paul Turner said the latest information from the Department of Transport and Main Roads was that Learner Drivers could venture out for the purpose of accruing their hours.
“After seeking clarification from DTMR, the advice is that Learner drivers can go out and get their hours up, but they must stay in their local area,” Mr Turner said.
“This doesn’t mean you can take a big road trip or travel too far away from home, as you could still be fined $1300 by police, unless it’s essential travel.
“There has been a lot of confusion around this topic and we hope this clear message will help our members.
“Our number one priority is to protect our members and motorists by helping them with the latest information.
“Please stay safe over Easter and please reduce your travel as much as possible to help stop the spread of this deadly virus.”
